This morning in a conversation with Mark Howard, Captain of M/Y Huntress, he informed me the yacht was involved in a collision with a ferry while entering the port of Venice. The yacht was under command of a delivery captain and had the Venetian harbor pilot on board who advised the captain he had the right of way. Fortunately, no one was injured; however, the yacht sustained approximately $500,000 in damage.
Mark explained that screen captures of MaxSea showing the track and MapMedia charts were used in the legal proceedings. Since MapMedia uses native hydrographic office charts there was absolutely no dispute arising from the use of MaxSea and the charts by the Italian authorities. The ferry was found at fault.
Mark, who has used MaxSea since version 10, went on to praise the stability of MaxSea Version 12.6, stating the program has not crashed once, and how good MapMedia MM2 charts are. The yacht has chartered this season in the Adriatic on both the Italian and Croatian coasts. She is now in Antibes, where she will begin a charter tomorrow calling on St. Tropez, Monaco, Portofino and other small ports. Then she will make her way back to Jacksonville, FL for repairs.
